YOUTH-phoria is an innovative devised youth theatre workshop where young artists work as an ensemble to create an original performance inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Created by ETC founder and professional theatre artist Lily Chrones (they/them), who holds a BFA in Contemporary Theatre from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the program was inspired by Lily’s own devised theatre training and designed to introduce young artists to an imaginative, ensemble-based approach to theatre-making in a welcoming, community-centered environment.
Guided by Lily and YOUTH-phoria’s Artistic Advisors, students will explore the core elements of theatre through ensemble building, theatre games, movement and voice work, Viewpoints exercises, character development, storytelling, and collaborative creation. Rooted in play, curiosity, and creative exploration, the workshop encourages students to actively participate in the devising process while learning communication skills, teamwork, creative problem-solving, artistic responsibility, and self-expression in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
Students will also collaborate with accompanist and Boston Conservatory at Berklee Musical Theatre graduate Antonio Del Valle (he/they), who is composing original music specifically for the production. The week culminates in a fully staged 45-minute performance featuring professional lighting and sound, original music, and devised moments collaboratively created by the students throughout the workshop. Following the performance, students and families are invited to celebrate together at a community cast party hosted at ShapeShifter Lab.
